NAPLES, FLA. — The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) and Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) recently purchased LED High Mast Retrofit Kits from LED manufacturer Globaltechled (www.globaltechled.com), for installation of energy-efficient interstate roadway lighting. The LED Retrofit Kits were installed inside the existing Holophane and GE high mast Fixtures — delivering energy savings estimated at nearly 70 percent compared with the old non-LED sodium fixtures.

According to Jeff Newman, president of Globaltechled, the retrofit kits allow DOTs to consume three quarters less energy than typical high-pressure sodium mast lighting. Both MaineDOT and CDOT anticipate more than a decade of virtually maintenance-free operation.

Globaltechled said that based on its technology, the 400-W LED retrofit kits provide optic lighting control with little to no spill-off into neighboring areas, helping DOTs improve backlight, uplight and glare issues. Another green feature of the retrofit kits is a greenhouse gas reduction of 16,000 pounds per housing.
