Construction begins on Georgia’s first diverging diamond interchange

ATLANTA — Even though utility relocation and landscape removal have been underway on the projects for some time, actual construction on the Ashford Dunwoody/I-285 Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) and the Roswell Road Bridge over I-285 just recently began, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).

“Diverging Diamond Interchanges have been utilized very successfully in other states and I think this is an ideal location for the first one in Georgia,” said GDOT Metro Atlanta District Engineer Bryant Poole.

The DDI provides congestion relief and enhanced safety by creating better flow on to the interstate. This project was awarded to E.R. Snell Contractors, Inc. at a cost of $4.6 million. It is scheduled to be completed by September 30, 2012. For additional information on Diverging Diamond Interchanges visit www.divergingdiamond.com/index.html.
